Happy Hot Dog Day! National hot dog day takes place this year on July 23, 2016.
Happy Hot Dog Day
Some interesting tidbits about the day.
- The holiday is actually the third Wednesday of the month.
- When Wednesday falls on the first day of the month, then the holiday is usually on the 4th Wednesday of the month.
- National Hot Dog Council and Sausage Council Designated the holiday to take place on the 23rd of July.
The holiday revolves around eating hot dogs and a lot of cities have celebrations with Wiener dog races, root beer chugging contests and face painting. The holiday has celebrations nationwide.
Additionally, a hot dog or sausage fully cooked or steamed is a favorite for summertime festivities. Also, every time I go to Fenway Park to attend a Red Sox game, it is a ritual for me to order a hot dog from one of the Vendors coming through the stands. I have strange quirks about this as once my Husband bought me a hot dog from the stands inside and I wouldn’t eat it – I still had to wait until a Vendor is nearby. Hence, strange but true.
In addition, there are many hot dog stands offering various ways to dress up your dog with various toppings. I keep it simple – mustard and relish. Some ways to prepare a hot dog are:
- Grilled
- Boiling or broiled
- Corn Dog
- Pigs in a blanket – Bake
- Pan fried
- Rotisserie
- On a stick over a campfire
Another favorite way to prepare a hot dog for me is to purchase the mini frankfurters and make a homemade sauce – this is a secret recipe that my Mom gave to me. Of course it is always a hit at Summer Barbeques and parties.
Hot Dogs are a summertime staple. In conclusion, people of all ages enjoy eating a hot dog or sausage.
